Water + Books = Bad News.

2/18/2021

Hello bookish friends,

We are incredibly sad to report that during the night, a mainline water pipe burst in the ceiling of our basement, resulting in the loss of about 80% of our fiction backstock. As book lovers, we can't quite put into words how it feels to look at shelves upon shelves of ruined literature. We're rather heartbroken. Anyway pity party over (kindof), so here's the rundown:

Q: What does this mean for me, a customer?

A:  We are still taking a full inventory of the books ruined by the leak, so if you order secondhand fiction titles from us, there is a chance that some of them were among the souls gone to their watery, pulpy grave. We ask for your patience as we catalogue the lost books. You will not be charged until your order is fully accounted for. Please be aware that it may take a little longer to process secondhand orders due to these complications. We thank you for your understanding.

Q: I just traded in with you, are my books safe???

A: YES. All of our pending trades are housed upstairs, and were not damaged by the leak.

Q: Should I even bother ordering books from you right now?

A: YES, PLEASE. We are saddened by the loss of so many lovely books, and will need funds to help us rebuild our backstock. As stated above, no orders are charged until all books are accounted for. Thankfully, many of our best titles were undamaged by this unfortunate event, as they were housed upstairs.

Q: I want to help! Is there anything I can do?

A:  Yes! Holding on to some great fiction titles in good clean condition? Donate or trade them in! We are going to need lots of help to recover from this inventory loss, and we are unsure of how much our insurance will cover. Please see the Trade-In page on our website for full details on how you can help to refill our shelves. 🖤😭

As always, we are so thankful for all of you who are along for this crazy ride with us, and who lovingly support our shop. You mean the (watery) world to us.

Warmly,

The Irreverent Bookworm Team
